Michelle's CV

 
Michelle presently serves as Commercial Counsellor at the Philippine Trade and Investment Centre – London. Prior to this posting, while on home assignment, she served as Executive Director of the Committee on ASEAN Economic Community and later as Assistant Secretary and Coordinating Officer of DTI’s Foreign Trade Service Corps.
 
Her most recent foreign assignment (February 2012 to June 2015) was as head of the Philippine Trade and Investment Centre – New York, with jurisdiction over the US Northeast and Midwest States and Eastern Canada.
 
She also served as a Director of the Philippine Centre Management Board, which manages the Fifth Avenue New York property of the Philippine government.
 
From April 2007 until her transfer to New York, Michelle served as Special Trade Representative and Consul (Commercial) at the Philippine Trade and Investment Centre – Sydney, covering Australia and New Zealand. Her work in promoting the Philippine IT/BPO industry to the ANZ market earned her recognition from the industry through a Finalist Award for ICT Individual Contributor of the Year at the 2011 International ICT Awards Philippines.
 
Michelle’s first foreign assignment was in Bangkok, Thailand from 2000 to 2005 where she also covered Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Myanmar. In this role, her main thrust was ensuring that Philippine businessmen reap the benefits of the evolving ASEAN Free Trade Area. In between her foreign postings, while on home assignment in DTI, she was detailed as Technical Assistant to the Senior Undersecretary (1999 to 2000), Special Assistant to the Chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Commission (2000), Coordinator for the International Trade Group and Technical Assistant to the Secretary of Trade and Industry (2005 to 2007).
 
Prior to joining government, Michelle worked with the Philippine Exporters Confederation and developed its range of export support services and policy advocacy program. Michelle was also involved in UN/ITC trade development programs and in crafting the first medium term Export Development Plan of the Philippines as part of Trade Development Consultants – Philippines.
 
Michelle is a product of the University of the Philippines in Diliman where she earned her undergraduate degree in BS Business Administration, cum laude. She completed her graduate studies in business in 1996 with an MBA in International Business and Export Management at the City University Business School in London, UK under a British Chevening Scholarship.
