The Department of Trade and Industry’s Bureau of Philippine Standards (DTI-BPS) adopted the International Standard (IS) on Management System for Private Security Operations – Requirements with guidance for use, as a Philippine National Standard (PNS) – International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 18788:2018.

The PNS ISO 18788:2018 specifies requirements and provides guidance for organizations conducting or contracting security operations. It provides a business and risk management framework for the effective conduct of security operations. Organizations engaging in security operations manage the utilization of tactics, techniques, procedures, and equipment, including weapons, to achieve both operational and risk management objectives.

DTI-BPS Director James E. Empeño underscores, “The adoption of the PNS ISO 18788:2018 is necessary to ensure that human rights are adhered to in order to safeguard lives and property and those untoward, illegal, and excessive acts are prevented”.

The purpose of this standard is to improve and demonstrate consistent and predictable security operations maintaining the safety and security of the clients that aims to ensure respect for human rights, national and international laws, and fundamental freedoms.

The DTI-BPS is the National Standards Body of the Philippines. It is the Philippines’ member to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
The PNS ISO 18788:2018 is available for purchase at the DTI-BPS’ SDC, located at the DTI Main Office, 3F Trade and Industry Building, 361 Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue, Makati City.
