The Department of Trade and Industry’s Bureau of Philippine Standards (DTI-BPS) approves the standard developed by the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (BAFS) on the Code of Good Animal Husbandry Practice (GAHP) for Poultry Hatchery as Philippine National Standard (PNS), PNS/BAFS 263:2019.

The PNS/BAFS 263:2019 aims to promote food safety, workers’ health and animal welfare, and animal environmental management through mitigating contamination. The standard sets out the general principles of good practice and minimum requirements for the production of safe and disease-free day-old chicks/poults in hatchery operations.

The PNS/BAFS 263:2019 was prepared by the Technical Working Group (TWG) for GAHP Hatchery by the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards. This standard supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) No. 3 on Good Health and Well-Being.

The DTI-BPS also approved the following Philippine National Standards on Agricultural Products:

  1. PNS/BAFS 261:2019 Edible Offal of Swine
  2. PNS/BAFS 262:2019 Free Range Chicken

The DTI-BPS is the National Standards Body of the Philippines. It is the country’s member to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
