SINGAPORE—President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. together with Trade and Industry Secretary Fred Pascual met with Dyson’s Chief Executive Officer Roland Krueger in Singapore on Saturday, 16 September 2023, to discuss the Singapore-based tech giant’s expansion plans in the Philippines.

Krueger confirmed Dyson’s PHP11 billion investment expansion in the Philippines during the meeting, which aims to position the country as a “center of excellence” for its advanced haircare product range. This initiative is part of Dyson’s strategy to bolster its presence in the Asian market, capitalizing on the Philippines’ emerging market potential and highly skilled workforce.

This commitment aligns with Dyson’s ongoing construction of a new research and manufacturing center in Sto. Tomas, Batangas. The project, a segment of a broader expansion blueprint in Asia and Europe, has already reached 30% completion as of July 2023. Dyson Philippines aims to initiate its transition to the new facility by the first quarter of 2024, with plans to be fully operational by 2025.

Upon the completion of its New Campus, Dyson Philippines plans to recruit an additional 400 engineers and over 50 graduate engineers. The R&D teams will focus on areas such as software, AI, robotics, fluid dynamics, and hardware electronics. Furthermore, Dyson highlighted that their investment would create around 1,250 job opportunities and intends to shift more contract manufacturing to the Philippines by the second or third quarter of 2024.

During the meeting, Secretary Pascual acknowledged Dyson’s significant contribution to the Philippine economy, particularly through the Dyson Electronics PTE. LTD located in Carmelray Industrial Park II, Calamba, Laguna.

“Dyson’s presence in the Philippines significantly contributes to investment generation and job creation. We are thankful of your PEZA-registered projects that have opened opportunities for Filipino engineers. We are also eager to explore further partnerships with your company, in collaboration with our state universities and the DTI,” Pascual said.

Dyson, known for designing and manufacturing household appliances such as vacuum cleaners, air purifiers, hand dryers, bladeless fans, heaters, and lights, operates twelve (12) projects under the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) as of May 2023. These projects represent an investment of PHP10.22 billion or USD183.39 million, providing employment to 841 workers. Since its PEZA registration in 2016, Dyson Philippines has contributed USD4.73 billion in export sales.

Also present during the meeting were Ms. Lou-Anne Fitzsimons, Chief Financial Officer and Mr. Derek Ng, Reputation and Corporate Affairs Director of Dyson. ♦
