Manila City, Philippines — The Department of Trade and Industry, through its attached agency Construction Industry Authority of the Philippines (CIAP), recently concluded two training sessions on “Understanding Construction Contracts” for academic professionals. The initiative aimed to equip educators with in-depth knowledge of CIAP Document 102, the Uniform General Conditions of Contract for Private Construction, a critical industry standard.

Led by the Philippine Domestic Construction Board (PDCB), the CIAP’s implementing arm, the 16-hour sessions provided the participants with an in-depth understanding of the document to significantly enhance the integration of this critical industry standard into academic curricula across the country.

“The onus falls on you, our dear educators. As we strive for excellence in construction, your role in shaping the future professionals of our industry is invaluable. Your dedication to fostering this knowledge is essential for the continued growth and success of our sector,” said PDCB Executive Director Doris U. Gacho.

“Equipping yourselves with comprehensive knowledge of construction contracts and CIAP Document 102 will not only enhance your professional capabilities but also ensure that we can impart these vital competencies to our students effectively,” PDCB Member Ronaldo R. Elepaño, Jr. added.

The training provided insights into CIAP Document 102, covering its key provisions and practical applications. It also tackled equitable and realistic contract conditions for construction projects, aligned with established construction industry standards.

“We will continue to conduct the CIAP Document 102 information sessions in collaboration with you, our partner agencies and organizations,” said Philippine Contractor’s Accreditation Board (PCAB) Executive Director and CIAP Officer-in-Charge.

“Our long-term vision is to integrate CIAP Document 102 into the syllabus and/or program of every architecture and engineering courses in the Philippines,” he added.

The integration of CIAP Document 102 will bolster the Philippines’ construction sector by ensuring future engineers and architects are equipped to effectively manage construction contracts, leading to more efficient and successful projects.

The training sessions were led by a distinguished panel of PDCB-certified lecturers, who bring extensive experience in project management, construction dispute resolution, and academic instruction. They facilitated interactive sessions and hands-on exercises, from which the participants gained useful insights applicable to real-life construction challenges.
