The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Department of Agriculture (DA) launched the Presyong Risonable Dapat Program (PRDP) – Frozen Meat Edition in Metro Supermarket, continuing their mandates to ensure stable prices of basic necessities and prime commodities.

The event commenced with the presence of officials from DTI headed by Secretary Ramon M. Lopez and Consumer Protection Group Undersecretary Atty. Ruth B. Castelo; DA represented by Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service (AMAS) OIC Director Dr. Ramon C. Yedra; and Metro Retail Stores Group Inc. headed by President and COO Manuel C. Alberto and Vice President for Corporate Affairs Anna Marie K. Periquet.

Metro Retail Stores Group Inc. President and COO Manuel C. Alberto declared the launching as a momentous occasion in their quest of giving greater value to consumers. Alberto explained that the program is even more valuable now with the urgent need to address economic challenges brought by the pandemic, particularly high prices and shortage of supply of meat products.

Likewise, DTI Secretary Ramon M. Lopez has pronounced the program as the DTI’s answer to the struggles of Filipino consumers in keeping up with the price increase brought about by the global health crisis. Following the economic principle that prices fall as supply increases to meet demand, the PRDP links importers and retailers to increase the supply of high-quality meat products and lower its market cost.

After the ceremony, the officials inspected the Metro Supermarket’s meat section with pork and chicken products following the pricing scheme under PRDP. Under the PRDP-FME, meat products are being sold between P200 and P250 per kilo, while chicken products cost P110 per kilo.
