The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 8 will hold the 24th Bahandi Eastern Visayas Trade Fair on 3 to 7 October 2024 at the Mega Trade Hall 1, 5th level, Mega B, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City to showcase Eastern Visayas’ artisanal products.
“Bahandi,” a Binisayá term for treasures and wealth, is the DTI 8 brand for its Eastern Visayas Trade Fair since 1987 where tradition meets innovation.
After a three-year hiatus from the pandemic, this year’s trade fair highlights a milestone for the certification of the Bahandi Eastern Visayas Trade Fair Trade Mark Registration granted by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines.
Now, in its 24th year, the fair continues to showcase how the rich cultural heritage of Region 8 can evolve through creative ingenuity, with 158 exhibitors representing Leyte, Southern Leyte, Biliran, Samar, Eastern Samar, and Northern Samar.
DTI Regional Director Celerina Bato said that the fair embodies the spirit of creativity—the dynamic blend of craftsmanship and technology. “From tech-driven designs to modernized traditional crafts, they will present creations that honor Region 8’s deep-rooted culture, forward-thinking vision, and commitment to innovation.”
With the success of the previous trade fairs, the Bahandi Eastern Visayas Trade Fair challenges exhibitors to surpass this year’s targeted sales of PHP 40 million across all Eastern Visayas provinces, according to the number of exhibitors and their capacity to reach sales.
Aside from the assisted local micro, small and medium enterprises, Bahandi will highlight its first ever Creative Exhibit where international and local artists from Region 8 are proud to exhibit and market their master pieces. Artists like Roel Cabulang, Dante Enage, and Ryan Managaysay will feature their paintings and leaf art, together with select artists of the region.
Buyers, partners, and supporters are invited to explore and celebrate the integration of tradition and technology, discover new opportunities, and foster connections. By supporting these local products, one not only embraces the heritage of Region 8 but also contributes to the continued growth and innovation of the region’s communities, fostering economic development. ♦
