Makati City, Philippines — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) presented a proposal to streamline the Suggested Retail Price (SRP) Bulletin during a special meeting of the National Price Coordinating Council (NPCC) on 27 June 2024.

“Our goal with this proposal is to improve the usability and relevance of the SRP Bulletin, making it a more effective tool for consumers to make informed purchasing decisions. By aligning the SRP with essential daily and emergency items, we are taking a significant step towards better price stability and consumer protection,” said Secretary Pascual.

The proposed delisted items include (1) condensed milk; (2) condensada; (3) evaporated milk; (4) evaporada; (5) coffee refill; (6) candles; (7) salt; (8) bottled water; (9) condiments; and (10) batteries.

Items to be retained include (1) sardines; (2) powdered milk; (3) bread; (4) laundry soap; (5) instant noodles; (6) processed and canned pork, beef, and poultry meat; and (7) toilet soap.

The proposal follows various consultations with stakeholders including the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Philippine Amalgamated Supermarkets Association, Inc. (PAGASA), Philippine Association of Stores and Carinderia Owners, and several retailers.

Additionally, the DTI considered data from the Family Income and Expenditure Survey, Consumer Price Index (CPI) basket of commodities, and top-selling items in sari-sari stores.

To further refine the proposal, a technical working group (TWG) will be established to finalize the list of stock keeping units within each category. As a key implementing agency of the Price Act and chairman of the NPCC, the DTI is mandated to ensure price stability and adequate supply of basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPCs).

Moreover, Section 10 (5) of the Price Act provides that implementing agencies may issue suggested reasonable retail prices for any or all BNPCs under their jurisdiction. This information guides producers, manufacturers, traders, retailers, and consumers.

The NPCC meeting was attended by the Department of Health, Department of Agriculture, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Energy, National Economic and Development Authority, Department of Justice, Department of Transportation, Department of Interior and Local Government, Philippine Competition Commission, PSA, Philippine Chamber of Food Manufacturers Inc., PAGASA, Laban Konsyumer, Inc., Philippine Consumer Centric Traders Association, Inc., and United Broiler Raisers Association.
