Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) recently turned-over materials to complete its negosyo kits to 41 boat operators in Moalboal, Cebu under the Pangkabuhayan sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa (PPG) program. 

The boat operators are members of the Boat Owners of Moalboal Island Hopping Association (BOMIHA) Inc. and are beneficiaries of Negosyo Kits worth P10,000 each. In relation to the ceremony, they have already received UV lamps as partial materials of their negosyo kits during the re-opening of tourism sites held in the municipality last 2 August 2020 led by the Cebu Provincial Government Gov. Gwen Garcia.

During the ceremony, Marechel Mercado, president of BOMIHA, expressed her appreciation for DTI’s response to their plea for assistance and is grateful to the department for providing the necessary items they requested. 

“This pandemic has affected us so much but your continued assistance always lifts our spirit. I truly believe that together, we can overcome whatever challenges and adversities that will be ahead of us. Together we can make things happen. We pledge full support to government initiatives as we also strive hard to survive and continue to improve the services that are expected from us,” said Mercado. 

Early 2020, the tourism industry has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the source of livelihood of many motorboat owners in Moalboal was stopped due to the lockdowns and restrictions, Mercado narrated. She revealed that this caused them as well as their boat crew much distress and hardship.  

The PPG Program is a livelihood seeding and entrepreneurship development program which aims to assist individuals and families affected by fire incidents and other calamities, including health disasters like the COVID-19 pandemic, and those who will avail of the Balik Probinsya Program to recover and/or start their business.
