Ninety-five participants, representing the different local government units (LGUs), Regional Line Agencies, and partner private organizations of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), joined the 7th and 8th Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) Recognition Ceremony hosted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – CAR via Zoom and Facebook platform on 17 February 2022.

Regional Competitiveness Committee (RCC) Chair and DTI OIC-Regional Director Juliet P. Lucas, presented the State Of the Region’s Competitiveness. “There are a number of developments that we have recently witnessed in our region. We hope that this will serve as our backbone or a good pillar to springboard to our competitiveness. The National Competitiveness Program, the Regional Competitiveness Strategy Map, and key reforms and program in promoting technology adoption are some initiatives we are pursuing in the CAR”, she stated.

The Competitiveness Index assess local competitiveness based on four pillars: Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, Infrastructure, and Resiliency. To ensure the proper implementation and more efficient coordination activities under the program, the Regional Competitiveness Committees (RCC) were created. With its establishment, more LGUs were encouraged to join and to improve ther competitiveness rankings.

The Recognition Ceremony vested Pillar Awards, Special Awards, and Overall Competitivess Awards to winning cities and municipalities for 2020 and 2021. Below is the list of overall winners:

Based on the 2020 and 2021 CMCI results, the region needs to address issues on transportation services, roads, communication, technology readiness, internet connectivity, and disaster preparedness to improve on infrastructure and resiliency. 

To prepare for the innovation pillar of the CMCI, research and development & innovation, IPO registration, and Start-Up Promotion should be enhanced.
