ODIONGAN, ROMBLON – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Romblon, in partnership with Romblon State University (RSU) and the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), conducted the first leg of the Intellectual Property Roadshow on May 8, 2024 at the Romblon State University (RSU) Main Campus in Odiongan, Romblon.
Participated by micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the event aimed to foster a competitive environment for the Creative Industry by providing legal frameworks that protect Intellectual Property (IP) rights and ensuring that creative individuals and businesses in MIMAROPA are recognized, rewarded, and motivated to continue their valuable contributions.
DTI Romblon Provincial Director Orville Mallorca welcomed and thanked the participants for finding time to learn how to safeguard their creative pieces. RSU University President Dr. Merian Mani shared her Keynote Message emphasizing the impact and protection of IP to individuals, students and businesses. The guest speakers from IPOPHL Mr. Marlo Carag and Ms. Arjoyce Coronacion usher in various discussions on IP, including copyrights, trademarks, and patents, providing practical knowledge and guidance on how local creatives can protect and leverage their intellectual assets. Ultimately, the IP Help Desk Romblon was launched to cater IP Support needs in the province.
DTI MIMAROPA Senior Trade-Industry Development Specialist Jonathan Laxamana then discussed Malikhaing Pinoy initiatives of the Department for the creative sector. In his closing remarks, RDI Director Mr. Jerome G. Gacu assured the continues support of RSU to DTI Romblon as partner agency in promoting entrepreneurship development and innovation in the province.
