The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) MIMAROPA conducted a nationwide webinar on Food Product and Process Standardization for small businesses and other members of the food sector.

Around 94 participants from DTI, business industry, academe, and private sectors participated in the webinar held on 22 September 2021.

Following the successful conduct of the virtual Food Safety Management Seminar last 18-19 August 2021, a similar training on the food product and process standardization will fully equip the participants as they go about with their business operations. This will enable them to identify the processes and parameters of safe and quality products and establish the mandatory documented information and processes as required by certification standards.

Facilitating the seminar is Engr. Menandro B. Ortego, licensed Chemical Engineer and Managing Director/Consultant of Conformance Training and Consultancy Services. Engr. Ortego also has been helping MSMEs with the standardization of products and processes to assure delivery of safe and quality food products for both local and foreign markets.

Engr. Ortego focused his discussion on the different standards in purchasing/receiving, storing, processing, packaging/packing/labeling, and delivery and dispatching of food products, in front of a very engaging virtual crowd.

“We tend to overlook product standardization when running our food businesses. It is important na maintindihan ng ating mga MSMEs ang kahalagahan ng standardization. If we equip ourselves with the appropriate standardization techniques, we help our businesses to be cost-effective and efficient, and will eventually lead to enhanced customer experience,” said DTI MIMAROPA Regional Director Joel B. Valera in his opening remarks. ♦
