Consumer empowerment leads to a safety-conscious society. Thus, the Department of Trade and Industry Region 1 (DTI-R1) stays committed to its mission to protect the welfare of the consumers and enjoined everyone in the celebration of the Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) last October 2021.
This year’s theme, “Digital Consumers: The new normal”, focused on the use of technology and the changes on consumer behavior due to the pandemic COVID19. Regional Director (RD) Grace Falgui-Baluyan highlighted the need for consumers to be more vigilant to ensure protection from unscrupulous online sellers.
DTI-R1 kicked-off the month-long celebration with an information drive guesting at the Tungtungan-Trabaho, Negosyo, Konsyumer (TTNK) Facebook Live Program last 4 October 2021. A coastal cleanup drive was also conducted at the municipality of Luna, La Union on 28 October 2021 wherein, DTI-R1 also donated cleaning tools and equipment to the barangay.
The Provincial Offices have also organized and conducted activities in line with the celebration. DTI La Union led a coastal cleanup drive and mangrove planting at Bauang, La Union. The annual ceremonial destruction of confiscated uncertified products were also done along with the poster making contests participated in by students from secondary level.
DTI Pangasinan launched various webinars on Consumer Welfare and Protection. DTI Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur, partnered with respective Local Price Coordinating Councils (LPCC), intensified the monitoring of prices and supply. Diskwento Caravans, Monitoring and Enforcement of Fair Trade Laws were also done by the provincial offices. DTI Region 1 also joined the Nationwide Simultaneous Special Price Monitoring Activity via DTI Philippines Facebook page last 29 October 2021.
Meanwhile, DTI Region 1 has been recognized as the “Highest in Silver Bagwis Awardees for CY2020” with 58 establishments conferred with Silver Bagwis Seal, during the virtual Bagwis Awarding Ceremony. To date, there
