NORTHERN MINDANAO – Thirty persons deprived of liberty (PDL) in Mobod, Oroquieta City underwent skills training to help them start their own handicraft industry or find work upon their eventual release and reintegration in the communities.
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Misamis Occidental, in partnership with Oroquieta City Jail through the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), conducted a Skills Training on Plastic Strap Bag/Basket Weaving Training.
It was one of the skills trainings identified to provide work skills and earning opportunity for select PDL during their confinement.
Skills trainers, Ms. Judith Oropa and Mr. Rosalito Cagatin, oriented the participants on product features, raw materials, tools, minimum skills required, expected number of hours, cutting of materials, hands-on weaving, and product pricing.
The training concluded with participating PDL completing the weaving process and producing products that were reasonably good in quality. ♦
