DAVAO CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Davao Region has already achieved more than 50 percent of its 2018 annual targets in different indicators.
Its planning unit revealed that during the first semester of this year, the office has already assisted a total of 8,112 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) throughout the region. This is 58% of its 2018 target of 14,000. Of this total figure, 1,933 are from the priority industry clusters.
As with its goal relative to the establishment and maintenance of Negosyo Centers, DTI-Davao has already recorded 43, indicating an accomplishment of 91% compared to its target of 47 by the end of 2018.
It has extended assistance as well to 62 investors (69 percent of the annual target of 90) and 77 exporters (59 percent of the annual target of 130) under the priority industry clusters. These include those in the cacao, coffee, information and communication technology (ICT), aquaculture, banana, coconut, rubber, and wearable and homestyle.
When it comes to the resolution of consumer complaints through mediation and arbitration within the prescribed time of 10 days, the office has achieved 97 percent, higher by two notches compared to its 95 percent target.
DTI-Davao Regional Director Maria Belenda Q. Ambi attributed her office’s first semester performance not only to their personnel’s hardwork, but also to the strong ties they have with their partners both from the government and private sector.
“Convergence and collaboration have always been our mantra. We have continuously proven that working closely with various partners could bring us to greater heights,” she said.
Under its exports and investments development program, DTI-Davao, though its provincial offices, has facilitated the participation of 194 MSMEs to five international, three national, five regional, and another five provincial/municipal trade fairs.
As a result, they have generated P5.391 million in cash sales, P2.978 million in booked sales, and P22.621 million worth of sales which are still under negotiation.
Under MSME development, the Kapatid Mentor ME (KMME) program has produced 53 new graduates from the 10-module mentoring sessions.
On consumer protection, all of DTI-Davao’s provincial offices have processed and issued a total of 1,573 permits and licenses region-wide.
Meanwhile, the number of business names registered within 15 minutes turn-around time reached 15,473. Of this figure, 14,017 are new applications.
In terms of client satisfaction rating, 99 percent of its client-respondents rated excellent or very satisfactory DTI’s services.
“We have really been working hard to sustain the momentum. And as early as now, we have been thinking already of what innovation we can implement by 2019,” Ambi said.DTI11/jmm♦
