KORONADAL CITY, SOUTH COTABATO – To increase the public’s awareness of the basics of product standards, the Department of Trade and Industry Region 12 (DTI-12) holds a product standards webinar which was attended by hardware and appliance store owners, representatives of partner agencies, and the general public.
The event is a response of DTI-Region 12 to elevate the knowledge of the consumers and business operators alike on the Product Standards Law and the corresponding product certification standards as implemented by the Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS), particularly on electrical and construction materials.
In the recently conducted monitoring and enforcement activities in Region 12, DTI-12 found four business establishments that have violated the Product Standards Law and were subsequently investigated and fined.
Product certification on construction materials and electrical products were discussed by Engr. Katrina T. Salvador and Engr. Reinore F. Deguito of BPS.
In his message to the participants, Jude Constantine S. Jaugan, the Regional Director of DTI-12, said that the event is geared to protect the consumers as well as the business establishments selling electrical and construction materials.
“We aim to work together on how we can ensure the production and distribution of quality products for the safety of the consumers as well as to protect our local business establishments here in the region,” said Jaugan.
Under President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s Tapang at Malasakit campaign, DTI was mandated to intensify product standard monitoring which includes the mandatory compliance certification of steel, cement, tiles, and plywood. ♦
