Through the collaborative efforts between the Department of Trade and Industry Region 2’s provincial offices of Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya, an Art Camp themed “Exploring Creativity Across Borders,” was held on 22 March 2024 at the Lower Magat Eco-Tourism Park in Diadi, Nueva Vizcaya.
The event witnessed a convergence of over 100 creative minds hailing from both provinces coming from the various creative domains, amateurs and seasoned veterans alike. Participants from the different Local Government Units (LGUs) and Academe were also present.
In their messages, Provincial Directors Mary Ann C. Dy and Atty. Michael Paggabao, highlighted the meaning of the theme which is to promote the creative economy of both provinces and that the “border” is nothing less than an imaginary line which does not really affect the collaborations in fostering creative initiatives for the “malikhaing industriya” of Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya.
Further, PD Dy underscored the importance of having an inspiration in making meaningful art pieces, “We have to go back to our roots whenever we pursue our creative expressions,” she added.
Mr. Elmor Villaruel, Adviser of the Quirino Tourism Council and Quirino Council for Tourism, Culture, and the Arts and Dr. Ruth Raña Padilla, Chairperson of the Regional Tourism Council, also graced this event to show their support on behalf of Governors Dakila Carlo E. Cua and Jose V. Gambito.
One of the major highlight of the activity was the Getting-to-Know portion where the artists were grouped wherein this provided an opportunity to connect and collaborate with other creative minds through the creation of their Group Identity using the different forms of art.
Additionally, Ms. Shanly Antonio, multi-awarded Visual Artist from Nueva Vizcaya and a member of the Hardin Creatives, Inc. shared her journey in becoming a creative artist to inspire participants. She expressed her inspirations in crafting her arts and enjoined everyone to be confident, “No matter what the age, whether you belong to the young or younger generation, we should freely express ourselves,” Ms. Antonio added.
Likewise, Mr. Filemon Ranchez, Retired Education Supervisor for Music and Arts Education, a multi-awarded artist and one of the Creative Icons of Region 2, also shared his experiences and journey in becoming the artist that he is now to inspire the participants.
Also present in the activity were Mr. Fernando Antimano and Mr. Rinel Ian Gacayan, Creative Icons Awardees of Cagayan Valley.
The Art Camp served as a platform for creative minds to connect, collaborate, and inspire each other, reflecting the region’s commitment to nurturing its “malikhaing industriya” and cultural heritage.
