Amulung, Cagayan — On 13 May 2024, the Department of Trade and Industry R2 Cagayan facilitated the Annual Cagayan Cacao Industry Development Council (CCIDC) Meeting at the Cagayan Provincial Farm School, Anquiray, Amulung, Cagayan. This significant event brought together stakeholders from the cacao industry to discuss and collaborate on strategies for the sustainable growth and development of the cacao sector in Cagayan.

Engr. Arsenio Antonio, representing Provincial Agriculturist Dr. Pearl Mabasa, opened the event with welcoming remarks. He praised the council’s collaborative spirit and encouraged cooperation among all stakeholders to achieve common goals.

Meanwhile, Ms. Cynthia Talattad, Chief of the Business Development Division, represented DTI Provincial Director Henry O. Conel, Jr. In her message, she emphasized the strategic importance of the cacao industry both within the province and on a national level. She reiterated the DTI’s commitment to supporting the industry through various programs, including capacity-building workshops, market linkages, and financial assistance schemes.

Mr. Noli P. Garcia, Chairperson of the Cagayan Cacao Industry Development Council (CCIDC), declared the quorum and officially opened the first CCIDC meeting for 2024. Additionally, Ms. Alpha Jessica B. Paggabao, the Cacao Provincial Focal Person, led the reading of the minutes from the previous meeting.

Key topics addressed during the meeting included the re-election of officers, the 2024 Cacao Work and Financial Plan (WFP), preparations for the National Cacao Congress, and discussions on the needs, issues, and recommendations for the CCIDC. These discussions were facilitated by Dr. Charles Irvin P. Tagarino, Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist (STIDS) of DTI R2 Cagayan.

The re-election of officers aimed to ensure continued effective leadership within the council, while the review of the 2024 Cacao WFP provided a roadmap for the year’s activities and initiatives. The upcoming National Cacao Congress was also highlighted as a pivotal event for furthering the council’s objectives on a national scale.

The meeting concluded with a closing message from Mr. Jojolyn Piedad, the new CCIDC Chairperson, who reiterated the council’s commitment to fostering a robust and sustainable cacao industry in Cagayan. ♦
