Isabela, Philippines — In a significant move towards modernizing local commerce, over 50 vendors from the Santiago City Public Market were onboarded to digital cash payment systems. The onboarding session, held on June 21, was facilitated by TIDS Mel Mari Angelo P. Laciste from the Department of Trade and Industry Isabela Provincial Office.

During the session, Laciste discussed DTI’s ongoing efforts to promote digital cash payments and highlighted the benefits of adopting these systems. He emphasized that digital or online payment options can lead to increased sales, provide security against counterfeit money, and offer a more streamlined transaction process.

A needs assessment activity was also conducted to gather insights from the market vendors on how to effectively implement the cashless program within the public market. Key concerns raised by participants included the need for improved internet connectivity and additional training sessions to help vendors, particularly those who are not tech-savvy, navigate digital payment systems more efficiently.

The session concluded with Laciste introducing the upcoming PalengQR Program, planned for implementation at the Santiago City Public Market. This initiative aims to further integrate digital payment solutions into the local market’s daily operations.

The event was also attended by Concurrent City Market Administrator Dr. Myra Grace Pascual, KAPWA Santiago City Vice President Mr. Epraim Abat, and Tech. Asst. Don Sergs Laureta from the DTI Santiago City Satellite Office.
This initiative marks a significant step towards embracing digital technology in local markets, promising to enhance both vendor and customer experiences through more secure and efficient transactions. ♦
