The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Region 02 kicked off this year’s celebration of Consumer Welfare Month with the 2nd Consumer Fun Run held on October 1, 2018 at the Regional Government Center, Carig Sur, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
 
Joined by 352 participants from the different regional line agencies, private groups and individuals, the fun run was divided into two categories: 5 kilometer-run for males and 3 kilometer-run for females. Cash prizes and tokens were given to the top 10 finishers. Mr. Robin Langcay, a student of the University of Cagayan Valley (UCV) and Miss Mary Lyn Manuel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) won first prize for the 5 kilometer-run and 3 kilometer-run, respectively.
 
Other events are lined up for the 2018 Consumer Welfare Month, namely: Poster-making Contest which is conducted in the provincial units between the 1st to 3rd week of October and participated in by High School students, and the 10th Great Cagayan Valley Consumer Assembly which will be staged on October 26, 2018 at the Piazza Zicarelli Convention Hall in Gamu, Isabela and will highlight the recognition of this year’s Bagwis Awardees.
 
Aimed to increase consumers’ awareness of their rights and to protect their welfare in a digital market, this year’s celebration of the Consumer Welfare Month is aptly themed “Making Digital Marketplaces Fairer”.
 
October of every year is declared as Consumer Welfare Month by virtue of Proclamation No. 1098, s. 1997 that was signed by former President Fidel V. Ramos.♦
