In a collaborative effort between the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) R2 Cagayan and the Amulung Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC), officials gathered on 20 March 2024, to reinforce mechanisms ensuring consumer protection in Amulung.

DTI R2 Cagayan Provincial Director Henry O. Conel, Jr. and Amulung LPCC Chairman, Mayor Elpidio R. Rendon, led the discussions aimed at strengthening consumer protection initiatives. The agenda included reviewing and updating the LPCC’s 3-Year Action Plan and educating stakeholders on various aspects of consumer protection.

During the session, STIDS Tess A. Guitering, from the Consumer Protection Division (CPD), refreshed participants on past consumer advocacy projects undertaken in Amulung and outlined proposed plans for future initiatives. Specifically, she focused on business education and advocacy, highlighting the importance of compliance with fair trade laws. She also provided re-orientation on the JOINT DTI-DA-DOE Admin. Order (JAO) No. 17-01, Series Of 2017 that outlines additional privileges for senior citizens and persons with disabilities regarding discounts on BNPC products.

Representatives from the BSP, including Area Director Eva Marcos and Bank Officer Maria Elena A. Madriaga, elaborated on the Paleng-QR Code Plus Ph program, offering technical assistance and addressing concerns raised by stakeholders. They also discussed on matters that deals with the identification of genuine Philippine currency.

The event concluded with Mayor Rendon expressing gratitude for the valuable insights provided by the BSP and DTI. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintaining a balance between consumer interests and business operations in Amulung.
