TUGUEGARAO CITY, CAGAYAN — The key officers of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2, through the SME Development Division (SMEDD) led by OIC Chief Desiree Angolluan, met with the officials of the Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 2 on 5 April 2024, to forge a tie-up for the conduct of the DTI R2’s 18th edition of the Regional Trade Fair (RTF), which will take place in Festival Mall Alabang in September of this year.

Considering this year’s Padday na Lima RTF as an ideal gateway to experience the culture and nature of Cagayan Valley, the DTI R2 looks at the opportunity to tap the DOT to showcase the region’s tourism industry to a wider, bigger segment of the population in Metro Manila.

The key points tackled during the buy-in meeting were the concept and components of the fair, which will not only feature fresh produce and retail items but also innovations, investments, and tourism opportunities, as detailed by SMEDD OIC Chief Angolluan.

On the other hand, the DOT R2, under the leadership of Regional Director Troy Alexander Miano, reaffirmed the agency’s support for the proposed collaboration for the RTF, where they shall provide a booth to showcase the region’s tourist destinations and tourism circuits; a “Souvenir Nook” to feature souvenirs and novelty items from the five provinces; conduct a tourism-related event or forum; and provide assistance to the RTF’s fashion show as one of the special events of the fair.

As preparations are in full swing, the DTI R2 will continuously coordinate with the DOT to carry out the directions set. More buy-in meetings with other partner agencies and LGUs will be held to sustain the partnerships and extensively promote the RTF.

Also present during the meeting were the officers of DTI R2: STIDS Karen Amores, TIDS Ren Mark Marcelo, and officers of DOT R2: Mr. Thomas Santos, Chief Tourism Operation Officer, and Mr. Romeo Caranguian Jr., Senior Tourism Operations Officer.
