As the country prepares to observe Fire Prevention Month in March, the Department of Trade and Industry Region 3 (DTI-3) underscores the importance of purchasing fire extinguishers from establishments with Philippine Standard (PS) License or Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) Certificate.
With the onset of the dry season and the heightened risk of fire incidents, DTI-3 reminds consumers to exercise caution and prioritize safety measures within their households and establishments. DTI-3 notes that investing in a certified fire extinguisher is a crucial step in fire prevention and preparedness.
“Fire Prevention Month serves as a timely reminder for all of us to be proactive in safeguarding our homes and communities against the threat of fire,” said DTI-3 OIC Regional Director Brigida T. Pili. “When purchasing fire extinguishers, it is imperative to ensure that they bear the PS or ICC mark, indicating compliance with safety standards and regulations,” she continued.
The PS License and ICC Certificate are issued by DTI to manufacturers and importers whose products meet the requirements of relevant Philippine National Standards (PNS). These certifications serve as guarantees of quality and reliability, providing consumers with peace of mind knowing that they are purchasing safe and effective fire extinguishers.
“Consumers are urged to look for proper markings and labels on fire extinguisher packaging, including manufacturer details, type of extinguishing agent, and PS/ICC marks,” RD Pili added. “By purchasing fire extinguishers from certified establishments, we can collectively contribute to fire prevention efforts and ensure the safety of our communities.”
Additionally, the public is also reminded to check the expiration dates of their fire extinguishers and to make sure that the pressure gauge should always be at the green mark for optimum use.
As Fire Prevention Month approaches, DTI remains committed to promoting safety consciousness and providing valuable guidance to the public. Through continuous information dissemination and advocacy campaigns, DTI aims to empower individuals and communities to take proactive measures in fire prevention and preparedness.
