VICTORIA, LAGUNA — Sales promotion is a marketing activity that is designed to increase sales, encourage customer loyalty, or generate brand awareness. It usually involves offering a discount or some other types of incentive for customers to buy a product or engage with a brand.
In 2023, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Laguna Provincial Office processed 280 sales promo applications and attended to witness 58 promotional campaigns for retail and service establishments in the province.
The sales promotion service of the agency regulates the conduct of promotional campaign through the issuance of permit on promotional campaigns/activities that has the following elements: (1) it has the promotion of a brand, product, or service with the end view of increasing sales, goodwill, or patronage of a product/service; (2) it entices participation for a promise of gain, chances of winning, and the likes; (3) it is conducted for a limited period of time (maximum period is 1 year); (4) it is published/announced using mass media and other widespread means of communication; and (5) the target participants are consumers (consumer as a natural person).
Sales promotion permits are issued by the DTI to activities featuring (1) discounts, (2) premium, (3) raffle, (4) games, (5) contest, (6) redemption, (7) beauty contest, and (8) home solicitation.
Through this service, the DTI assures the public that all sales promotion activities are compliant to the mandates, rules, and regulation under the Republic Act No. 7394, otherwise known as the Consumer Act of the Philippines.
