The Department of Trade and Industry – Laguna in collaboration with the Senior High School Department of Laguna State Polytechnic University – Santa Cruz Campus through Negosyo Center Pila has successfully conducted a two (2) day – Webinar on Career Opportunities for graduating SHS students of TVL-Home Economics and TVL-Accountancy and Business Management via Zoom platform. The webinar on Career Opportunities held last 26 and 28 April 2022 was attended by 32 TVL-HE students (April 26) and 67 TVL-ABM students (April 28).

Dr. Rosario G. Catapang, associate dean of the College of Teacher Education grace the two-day webinar with an opening message followed by the introduction of the Resource Speaker by Alona D. Malvar, SHS work immersion coordinator. Edelyn Aireen P. Muñoz, senior Business Counsellor assigned in Negosyo Center Pila served as the resource speaker for the said event.

To enlighten the participant’s ideas on the topic, Muñoz introduced the topic to the career path that the students can undertake after they graduate from senior high school. The first part of her discussion focused mainly on the preparation and the type of specialization if students decide to pursue a college degree or enroll in institutions or training centers to gain specific skill sets. She has also included in her discussion the different types of industries that the SHS students can look forward to if they decided to seek employment. She has also discussed RA 11261 also known as the “First Time Jobseekers Assistance Act”.

In the second part of the webinar, Muñoz introduced the topic “How to Start a Business”. It is one of the career opportunities that students can undertake after graduating from school. In this module, Muñoz discussed the right mindset and competencies that an entrepreneur must-have. The participants were also able to learn about Generating Business Ideas and an overview of Business Plan Preparation.

The webinar concluded as Muñoz, shared success stories videos of some Laguna MSMEs that pursue being an entrepreneur after gaining knowledge from their education, training and seminars they attended and their work experience. It was followed by awarding of commendation for the resource speaker and closing remarks given by Bernardita M. Rosales, LSPU SHS Chairperson.

Finally, the webinar on career opportunities has been rated satisfactorily by the participants. They believe that this topic will help them in exploring opportunities in the future whether it will be in employment or self-employment. ♦
