INFANTA, QUEZON — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)–Quezon, the Office of the Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator (OPPDC), and Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) organized a coaching session and validation for the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Infanta, Quezon. This session was part of the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) program, an annual ranking of Philippine cities and municipalities developed by the National Competitiveness Council in collaboration with the Regional Competitiveness Committees (RCCs) and the United States Agency for International Development which aims to enhance the performance of LGUs in various areas such as Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, Infrastructure, Resiliency, and Innovation.

During this session, the main focus was on evaluating the LGU’s previous performance in the CMCI. A comprehensive discussion took place, covering each indicator per pillar, with the specific goal of identifying areas that require improvement and enhancing the accuracy of the data. Furthermore, potential sources of data were highlighted to ensure a more precise assessment, which has the potential to positively impact the municipality’s ranking.

As a recommendation, it would be beneficial for the LGU of Infanta to explore the option of registering their authentic creations, such as prayers, hymns, and brochures, with the Intellectual Property Office (IPO). By taking this step, they can effectively protect their intellectual properties from any potential copying or infringement. Also, this action aligns with one of the pillars of CMCI, which is fostering innovation.

Moreover, the LGU of Infanta was encouraged to establish its own Local Competitiveness Council (LCC). This council would be responsible for gathering inclusive data and conducting assessments within the municipality. By having an LCC, Infanta can ensure a systematic and organized approach to data collection, which will contribute to a better understanding of the municipality’s competitiveness.

The LGU of Infanta expressed a sense of optimism and confidence, believing that they have the potential to improve their rankings in the upcoming CMCI Cycle.
