Inspired by the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) goal of developing globally competitive and innovative industry sectors, DTI Cavite has embarked on a new initiative promoting the inclusion of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the implementation of consumer welfare programs.

On 18 November 2021, DTI Cavite, through its Consumer Protection Division (CPD), awarded ‘Silver Bagwis’ Seal to two Cavite homegrown enterprises— Delfa’s Food Products, Inc. who was recognized in September and Amira’s Buco Tart Haus who was recognized in October. The award serves as recognition to both establishments for upholding the rights of consumers while practicing responsible business.

“Both MSMEs qualified under the ‘Specialty Stores’ type of establishment and initially applied for the Bronze Award. However, upon review of their applications, it was assessed that both establishments were already qualified for the Silver Bagwis Award, taking into account their compliance to Fair Trade Laws, presence of Consumer Welfare Desk (CWD), and practice of Corporate Social Responsibility,” said Lilibeth Chavez, CPD Division Chief of DTI Cavite.

An improvement to the previous awards dominated by big corporations, including department stores and supermarkets, the initiative encourages MSMEs to also take part in DTI’s drive to effectively address consumer-related concerns.

“It is very important that our MSMEs understand the rights and responsibilities of our clients to properly address their complaints so that our enterprises can increase customer satisfaction and boost customer retention,” said DTI CALABARZON Regional Director Marilou Toledo.

“We are very proud that in Cavite, we already have these enterprises who now serve as our partners in protecting the welfare of our consumers,” added DTI Cavite Provincial Director Revelyn Cortez.

With continuous support from the MSME sector, DTI Cavite looks forward to certify more micro and small enterprises to realize DTI’s mission of enabling businesses and at the same time, empowering consumers. ♦
