VICTORIA, LAGUNA – On August 13, 2024, the Department of Trade and Industry-Laguna Provincial Office (DTI-Laguna), led by Provincial Director Christian Ted O. Tungohan, conducted an onsite market inspection at Bay, Laguna Public Market with the assistance of Ms. Maria Clara B. Conopio (Chief Trade-Industry Development Specialist), Ms. Monica Czarina F. Abarca (Senior Trade-Industry Development Specialist), Ms. Klyde Joy B. Bruno (Trade-Industry Development Specialist), and Ms. Avegail D. Agojo (Negosyo Center Business Counsellor). The DTI team was assisted by the Market Master Edilberto Tolentino. The market inspection’s goal is to ensure the market’s general condition, and this was also in preparation for the tentative scheduled visit of DTI Acting Secretary Ma. Cristina A. Roque on September 5, 2024.

The DTI-Laguna Personnel assessed the cleanliness of the facility during inspection. They also observed the pricing displays to ensure transparency for customers regarding the current market rates. Additionally, they evaluated the Timbangan ng Bayan to confirm that it was properly calibrated and that the market was adhering to ethical practices.

Based on the onsite inspection, it was observed that, depending on the market’s specialization, consumers typically find a range of products including vegetables, meat, fish, dairy items, baked goods, coffee, spices, and various specialized and prepared meals. In addition to food, some markets also offer crafts, beverages, flowers, and other non-food items. To promote a better marketplace and safeguard consumers from unfair trade practices, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) maintains its monitoring and enforcement actions in various businesses.
