As part of enhancing consumer advocacies, a multi-sectoral participation was engaged in the Consumer Month celebration in Quezon Province.
The Cooperative Sector with DTI-Quezon had a twinning activity for the celebration of its Cooperative Month and last 20 October 2021, a webinar on Safety Seal Certification was discussed with the members of the Lucena City Cooperative Development Council (LCCDC). A total of 47 participants joined in this online activity. With the initiative of Nimfa Arias, the City Cooperative Development Officer, LCCDC member cooperatives and its MSMEs constituents will be engaged to secure its Safety Seal Certification as its Covid19 concrete measurable mitigation action.
Engaging the educational sector on 22 October 2021 the College of Sciences Technology and Communication (CSTC) Inc. Atimonan had two webinar sessions on Consumerism topics with emphasis on the theme – Digital Consumers. A total of 29 college level participants joined during the first morning session and there was 39 high school participants in the afternoon session. Philip Leee Oliveros and Ruel Gabiola contributed meaningfully as the resource speakers.
The private sector participation led by Rotary Club of Gumaca in another webinar topic on Consumerism was held on 29 October 2021. This was also joined in by LGU-Gumaca and various educational institutions (SLSU, Calauag Central College, Eastern Quezon College) and generated a total of 301 participants. The audience was empowered to know their rights and responsibilities as consumers. Mr. Philip Leee Oliveros and Mr. Ruel Gabiola provided the relevant information on consumer rights and responsibilities as we face the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Negosyo Center Gumaca Business Counselor Harold Christian P. Aguilar facilitated this online activity.
LGU – Tayabas led by Mayor Ernida Agpi Reynoso with its City Price Coordinating Council (CPCC) as part of its contribution to the Consumer Welfare Month celebration hosted a Consumerism Webinar. This was intended to capacitate its CPCC Task Force on Fair Trade Laws, Customer Service, Handling Complaints and Product Standard Updates. Its significant contribution was the development of its online portal “BANTAYI” (Bantay-E) for price monitoring updates to the community of Tayabas. In cooperation with DTI Quezon, this online portal will be launched as part of the CPCC social media presence in its price monitoring support activities before the end of December 2021. Philip Leee Oliveros and Ruel Y. Gabiola served as the resource speakers while Maria Edel L. Villadiego, Negosyo Center Tayabas Business Counselor facilitated this online activity. Ms. Mary Lou Montoya the City Economic Development and Investment Promotions Officer provided the team support in the activation and operationalization of Tayabas CPCC.
In-Store Diskwento Caravan
SM City Supermarket Lucena and SM Savemore Markets (Tiaong, Agora Lucena City, Primark Tayabas City) participated in the 2021 Consumer Month Celebration, which helped to provide discounted prices on selected basic goods and necessities to various communities in Quezon. This event took place on 30-31 October 2021, just in time for the All Saint’s Day season’s consumer spending.
Bagwis Promotion
A total of nine BAGWIS MSMEs applications were inspected and assessed on site which covered five Service and Repair Services and four supermarkets. All these firms were endorsed for the 2021 Bagwis Bronze Award Regional Validation and Assessment.
Safety Seal
In our continuing support to ensure safety of consumers through safety seal certification against COVID-19, DTI Quezon had a total of three applications that were validated and approved for the seal which covered one supermarket and two logistics service providers. ♦
