CALAUAG, QUEZON — The Department of Trade and Industry-Quezon Provincial Office, through its Negosyo Center Calauag, conducted a joint consultative meeting with the San Quintin Multi-Sectoral Organization in Calauag, Quezon. The meeting aimed to promote the use of eco-friendly bamboo straws in local businesses such as restaurants, resorts, hotels, and lodges, while the Department of Science and Technology Region IV-A conducted a monitoring of the adoption of the DOST Forest Products Research and Development Institute (FPRDI) non-wood dryer technology, which is part of the 2021 DOST Grants-in-Aid (GIA) Community-Based Project (CBP) of the San Quintin Multi-Sectoral Organization (MSO).

The meeting was attended by representatives of the DTI Quezon-Negosyo Center Calauag and the DOST Quezon staff. During the meeting, the participants discussed various strategies to promote the use of bamboo straws in local businesses and explored ways to increase the adoption of the non-wood dryer technology.

The non-wood dryer technology is part of the 2021 DOST Grants-in-Aid (GIA) Community-Based Project (CBP) of the San Quintin Multi-Sectoral Organization. The technology is designed to improve the drying process of non-wood forest products such as bamboo, rattan, and abaca, which can then be used to create various eco-friendly products such as bamboo straws.

The DTI and DOST expressed their support for the initiative and pledged to provide technical assistance to help promote the use of bamboo straws and increase the adoption of the non-wood dryer technology. The participants also discussed the potential economic benefits of promoting eco-friendly products and adopting new technologies in local communities.

Overall, the joint consultative meeting was a positive step towards promoting sustainable practices in local businesses and encouraging the adoption of new technologies. By working together, the DTI and DOST can help local communities create economic opportunities while also protecting the environment.
