For the third straight year, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Rizal successfully conducted BIDABES: Building Initiatives with DTI in Assisting Budding Entrepreneurs to Succeed thru 7Ms under the Youth Entrepreneurship Program on 22 November 2022, via Zoom and Facebook Live.

DTI Rizal OIC Provincial Director Cleotilde M. Duran excitedly welcomed the participants, mostly students from different schools, even outside the province, to the program and encouraged them to face the post-pandemic recovery stage with optimism. Echoing the same enthusiasm was DTI CALABARZON Regional Director Marissa Argente, who urged the participants to take inspiration from the day’s speakers and highlighted the importance of acquiring both book smarts and street smarts while they are young, especially for those planning to be an entrepreneur.

Ms. Glenda Victorio of Brilliant Skin Essentials, Inc. and Ms. Cherry Lyn Mendoza of Moolk Creamery Corp. were delighted to share their entrepreneurial journey. Ms. Victorio shared how challenges seemed to be a recurring occurrence in her young life and how those challenges helped shape her not only as an entrepreneur but as a person in general. She encouraged the youth never to be disheartened by challenges but instead take lessons and learn from them and how being resourceful and aggressive is an integral part of entrepreneurship. She also reminded the youth about how social media can be a double-edged sword and how one must be valiant, especially since it is now a ubiquitous part of our lives.

For her part, Ms. Mendoza shared how, fresh out of college, she raised the eyebrows of old-timers when she decided she wanted to go into poultry farming. Imparting her learnings from that experience, she advised the participants not to be afraid to ask for help and learn from those who came before them, taking care of people under your employ is taking care of business, to always give their 100% and never do things half-baked, and delegate if they must; something she had to learn when she started diversifying her business interests.

A fruitful discussion on Branding 101 was led by Ms. Jenny Wieneke of JWien Food Corporation, serving as a preview for aspiring entrepreneurs as well as a refresher for seasoned business owners.

DTI Rizal Business Development Division Chief Ms. Sharon Dioco concluded the program and expressed gratitude to the speakers for sharing their entrepreneurial journey and imparting invaluable lessons that the youth can learn from and assimilate.
