On 16 March 2022, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Shared Service Facilities (SSF) Quezon conducted SSF business matching, bamboo survey and bamboo project presentation with Yakap at Halik Multi-Purpose Cooperative II and New Gumaca Woodcraft Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Padre Burgos, Quezon facilitated by Senior Trade and Industry Specialist/ SSF Provincial Coordinator Ma. Graciela C. Ledesma with SSF Support Staff Dara Jannes C. Obmerga. It was also assisted by Mr. Ranel B. Lingahan, Provincial Cooperative Development Specialist (PCDS) from the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) and Ms. Meranel Ann T. Rustia, DTI Negosyo Center-Padre Burgos Business Counselor.
The meeting started with the bamboo survey conducted by STIDS/ SSF Provincial Coordinator Ledesma for the profiling of bamboo enterprises and for possible matching with CS First Green Agri-Industrial Development, Inc. (AIDI).
Mr. Armel L. Amparo, the General Manager of YHPMC II toured the team to their demo farm to see the bamboo plantation and land available for expansion.
PCDS Lingahan opened the discussion about the bamboo project presentation. The said project aims to give a business opportunity to bamboo processors in Quezon Province in partnership with CS First AIDI. The said company is looking for processors of bamboo who can supply them 26,000 tons of bamboo slats (pat-pat). Hence, the Quezon Bamboo Technical Working Group (TWG) is eyeing YHMPC II to be the consolidator in Quezon for CS First AIDI.
In addition, STIDS/ SSF Provincial Coordinator Ledesma shared the different business opportunities in bamboo such as making bamboo shoots, fibers, engineered bamboo and many more. She introduced Mr. Neil A. Calvelo, the Chairman of New Gumaca Woodcraft Multi-Purpose Cooperative, who operates the SSF for Bamboo Processing in Gumaca, Quezon, who can help YHMPC II in starting the said business. STIDS/ SSF Provincial Coordinator Ledesma linked the two cooperatives for possible tie-up or for YHMPC to rent the SSF in Gumaca, Quezon.
Chairman Calvelo also gave a brief background of NGWMPC and agreed on the possible matching with YHMPC II for the bamboo processing.
General Manager Amparo and the board members also signified their interest in the said bamboo project, but will further study on the possibilities.
The two cooperatives will be coordinating with each other for the possible partnership.♦
