The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Quezon Shared Service Facilities Program has successfully conducted one of its major activities this year 2021 namely the SSF Awareness Webinar on Establishing a Safe and Healthy Workplace on 5 – 6 October 2021 to ensure safety and healthful working conditions in all places of employment such as establishments, projects and sites and to educate them with the current knowledge on basic troubleshooting and preventive maintenance of machines/equipment.

On the first day of the webinar on 5 October 2021, the SSF team consisted of SSF Provincial Coordinator Ma. Graciela C. Ledesma, SSF Support Staff Dara Jannes C. Obmerga, Negosyo Center (NC) Lucena Business Counselor (BC) Rolynda N. Quimora and NC Dolores Business Counselor Aicel Joy Dongon, facilitated the Awareness Webinar on DOLE Occupational Safety and Health Regulations for Business Establishments.

It started with an overview of the two-day webinar, acknowledgement of participants and opening prayer by SSF Support Staff Obmerga as one of the hosts of the event followed by a reminder of the webinar house rules by BC Quimora. Afterward, Provincial Director Julieta L. Tadiosa delivered her opening message to all the 213 participants and shared to them the importance of attending webinars to learn new knowledge and be able to apply it to their business operations.

Then SSF Provincial Coordinator Ledesma introduced the resource speaker, Ma. Angelica B. Balasta, a Senior Labor and Employment Specialist from the Department of Labor and Employment Quezon Provincial Office. She discussed the safety regulations, hazards/risks in the workplace and contingency measures by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in accordance with the Department Order No. 198 Series of 2018: Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 11058 entitled – An Act Strengthening Compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Standards and Providing Penalties for Violations.

After the learning session, SSF Provincial Coordinator/STIDS Ledesma and SSF Support Staff Obmerga facilitated the open forum where participants asked several questions to Resource Speaker Balasta and wrapped up the first day of the webinar.

On the second session of the SSF webinar, SSF Support Staff Obmerga and BC Quimora recapped the DOLE Occupational Safety and Health Regulations for Business Establishments. Engr. Macapaz, the resource person on the second day, is an international mechanical engineer who discussed the basics on how to use a system and an approach to solve basic electrical problems or troubleshooting in the SSF machines and equipment. He also pointed out how to properly maintain them for more efficient operations and prolong the lifespan of the machines and equipment.

For the closing remarks, OIC Division Chief of the Business Development Division, Ma. Cristina J. Avio thanked all the 157 participants for attending the said webinar. She also acknowledged and thanked the resource speakers for the two-day event. ♦
