Alaminos, Laguna – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), through the Negosyo Center (NC) Alaminos, continues to provide seminars/trainings to help the new and existing entrepreneurs of Alaminos and nearby cities and municipalities. Webinar on business taxes was conducted last 25 August 2021 via Zoom and Facebook live.

Negosyo Center Business Counselor (NCBC) Jean Kristine Torres hosted the said webinar. The Provincial Director of DTI-Laguna, Clarke S. Nebrao, graced the event by giving warm welcome to the participants. Prof. Francis O. Mateos, a Certified Public Accountant, was the resource speaker. Mateos started by explaining what business taxes are. He then differentiated business activities and their corresponding business taxes. He first elaborated what value added tax or VAT is by citing its definition based on law, kinds, basis, and characteristics. Persons who are liable on paying were also mentioned and examples on the computation were shown. Mateos also reiterated the two types of VAT registration; mandatory and optional. He then enumerated the 28 business activities that are exempted from VAT. Filing of VAT returns whether with or without payment were explained. Second type of business tax which is the other percentage tax (OPT) was also expounded. Its return and payments were discussed. The last part of the presentation was about excise tax and its time of payment.

Potential and existing micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) joined the webinar. The participants expressed their appreciation on a very informative, knowledgeable, well-structured, and helpful discussion of Mateos. They also expressed their gratitude on the help that the Department of Trade and Industry, through NC, has given to them amidst the pandemic and look forward on the upcoming webinars of NC. ♦
