GUMACA, QUEZON — The first public hearing of the Buy Local Advocacy Program (BLAP) was facilitated by Gumaca Councilor Stephanie Marquez, Chairperson of the Committee on Labor, Employment, Trade, and Industry, on February 9, 2023. The Buy Local Advocacy Program’s (BLAP) objective is to mandate all the departments of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Gumaca to utilize at least ten percent (10%) of their respective approved Annual Procurement Plans (APPs) for the purchase of locally produced products and services from Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and to allocate funds therefor for the establishment and operation of its implementing mechanism.
A public hearing was conducted to allow an open discussion to address various questions, issues, and concerns. Present during the public hearing were department heads of LGU Gumaca who showed positive interest in the program. Hon. Stephanie Marquez along with the Negosyo Center Gumaca Business Counselor discussed the Buy Local Advocacy Program. Committee members Hon. Prescilla Gina David-Magbuhos and Hon. Jhudiel Gilbert Amier were also virtually present.
Supporting local businesses will promote a sense of belonging and social linkages. People are more likely to build rapport with and trust their local suppliers when they support local businesses by shopping and purchasing from them. ♦
