BINONOAN, QUEZON — Samahan ng Maliliit na Maglalala ng Binonoan, also known as SMMB, was introduced to Ms. Ella Queen V. Aguelo, Negosyo Center-Infanta, Business Counselor, by Ms. Sierra Cecilia A. Peñamante, Tourism Operations Officer II, and Designated Cultural Officer, with the purpose of consulting for possible support from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Quezon.

SMMB is an association of local weavers that produces handicrafts made from native raw materials such as kalagimay, rattan, kaong, and nito. Mr. Freddie Dongsao, the leader of the group, discussed the assistance they needed to improve their products as well as their skills. He mentioned the need for flattening and stripping devices that would ease the process of their handicrafts making.

Ms. Aguelo gave an overview of DTI programs and services that would help support and promote their products. She emphasized that the group should first adhere to government regulations to be competitive in the industry. She also discussed some of the trainings/seminars that would help their association be equipped with relevant knowledge that would contribute to their success.

The Tourism Office proudly presented some of the handicrafts produced by SMMB, which are certificate holders, kalagimay baskets, nito pendants, wine baskets, vases, fans, and others.

Also present during the meeting were SB Member Hon. Joseller M. Portales, Local Economic Development and Investment Promotion Office (LEDIPO) Designate Ms. Ruth Ann P. Cuerdo, and Tourism Support Staff Ms. Charmaine V. Leynes.
