LUISIANA, LAGUNA — The Laguna Provincial Office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-Laguna) through Negosyo Center Luisiana conducted a webinar on digital marketing platforms and consumer education which tackled ways on how to fuel the business’ online presence and how to protect consumers from cyber transactions. The webinar was held via an online conferencing platform (Zoom) on April 14, 2023, and was participated by potential and existing micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The webinar started with an opening prayer and was followed by the opening remarks delivered by Mr. Christian Ted O. Tungohan, OIC Provincial Director of DTI-Laguna. He expressed his appreciation to the participants who shared their valuable time to attend the said event, as well as to the DTI-Laguna Team, organizer, and speakers. He mentioned that the Department of Trade and Industry is one of the government agencies that helps MSMEs and the promotion and advocacy for digital marketing is being strengthened even before the COVID-19 pandemic happened in 2020. He further highlighted that, with the advancement of technology, different digital marketing platforms are now being used to sustain businesses most especially during the new normal wherein business operations resumed and that this trend is helpful to succeed and establish brand awareness for MSMEs. He added a brief description on the second topic which was consumer education focusing on cyber transactions in order for the participants to become more aware of both risks and tips online as well as ensure legitimacy of business establishments to protect consumers.

The webinar continued with an ice breaker game entitled, “Let’s Get Digital” which was presented by the host of this webinar, Ms. Rica Mae G. Ceria, Negosyo Center Business Counselor of Negosyo Center Luisiana. It was an interactive crossword puzzle game which featured some of the social media and digital marketing platforms. It was followed by a brief description of the first topic and introduction of the resource speaker.

The first part, Digital Marketing Platforms: Fuel Your Business’ Online Presence, was discussed by Mr. Joel Nico A. Toriano, Senior Negosyo Center Business Counselor of Negosyo Center Lumban. He started with an introduction of e-marketing and its overview in the Philippines. It was then followed by the importance of e-marketing in doing business which highlighted the quest for convenience. Thereafter, the difference between traditional marketing and e-marketing was discussed and its advantages and disadvantages. A sample video of Tiktok online selling strategy was presented to the participants which showed a unique and fun way to attract customers. The topic ended with the presentation of various e-marketing platforms and general overview on how to use them. There was a brief question and answer portion at the end of the discussion as well.

The second topic entitled, “Consumer Education: Protection of Consumers on Cyber Transactions” which was discussed by Ms. Marites V. Pantua, Trade and Industry Specialist from DTI-Laguna Consumer Protection Division. She started with the presentation of RA 7394 Consumer Act of the Philippines and other policies related to e-commerce. In addition, she explained the process of filing consumer complaints and other concerns or issues that are usually received by DTI. At the end of the presentation, she highlighted the online shopping securi-tips to ensure safety on online transactions for consumers. The webinar was officially ended by the host of the webinar.
