About Philippines’ participation in ASEAN Online Sale Day 2020
The inaugural ASEAN Online Sale Day (AOSD), a region-wide e-commerce promotion day, was launched and held on ASEAN Day, 8 August 2020. This initiative, which was participated by more than 200 businesses across ASEAN that offered a large range of goods and services at promotional or discounted rates, aimed to raise awareness of the important role of e-commerce, due to its inclusiveness, in sustaining the region’s economic growth through the difficult time brought about by COVID-19 pandemic and to promote the growth of ASEAN’s e-commerce as one of the key drivers for the development of the digital economy in ASEAN.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) partnered last year with members of the Philippine Franchise Association (PFA), Philippine Retailers Association (PRA), and UnionBankGlobalLinker which facilitated the participation of 36 Philippine e-commerce businesses. These included Philippine brands like Bench, Coco deli, Cumulusph, Enoch Handmade Leather, Expressions, Karat World, Karimadon, Legal Tree, Mayumi Organics, and Wilcon Depot, among others. DTI’s GoLokal, which features Philippine products, was also featured through the e-commerce platform, Shopinas. Of these 36 businesses and platforms, 16 sold their products across all ASEAN countries. These included local businesses like Balai Kamay, Belle Ame Essentials, Business Innovations Gateway, Hooman Design, Mayani, NDT-PHILS Inspection Services, and the Wedding Library. E-Commerce marketplaces also participated in the event, namely BigBenta, Galleon.Ph, Lazada Philippines, Shopee Philippines, Zalora and Zilingo together with delivery platforms GrabExpress and Lalamove.
