Negotiation techniques in overseas construction

SALVADOR P. Castro Jr., chairman and president of SP Castro Inc., said each country and each company have different negotiating techniques. Contractors should capitalize on their strengths and address their weaknesses.

He emphasized that contractors must be aware of the country’s legal system, regulations on practice of profession and contractors accreditation, taxation and repatriation of income, international consultancy agreements, construction contracts, forms of agreements and key provisions therein.

Ruth B. Castelo, undersecretary for Competitiveness and Ease of Doing Business Group provided an inspirational message and mentioned the series of capacity-building seminars they are providing for contractors. She said they would like Filipinos to do overseas work and practice their profession abroad, but expressed the wish they would come back to the Philippines and keep their family here and Filipino talents in the country. She said they want them to become globally competitive and bring home the bacon afterward.
