THE Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) Competitiveness Bureau, in partnership with the Export Marketing Bureau and the Board of Investments, is gearing up for the first Logistics Services Philippines Conference and Exhibition slated for December 6 and 7.

The event will gather stakeholders from the logistics services sector, government and development partners to thresh out issues and formulate recommendations in a bid to boost competitiveness of logistics services in the country.

“Realizing the potential of LSPs [logistics services providers]  as one of the core enablers of development and major driver of job generation, we organized the first-ever Logistics Services Philippines Conference to serve as platform for discussion among key stakeholders: the logistics services providers, the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and the government. Developing a globally competitive logistics services sector is important in supporting the industries and strengthening our supply chain.” Undersecretary Rowel Barba said.

The first Logistics Services Philippines Conference 2018, under the theme “ Trabaho at Negosyo: Creating Opportunities in the Logistics Services Sector,” aims to identify issues that hinder the development of the LSPs. In response, the concerned government agencies are expected to present policies and programs that will address major issues raised during the conference.

The four areas of discussion in the conference include review of Philippines performance in the Logistics Performance Index; regulatory reforms to promote ease of doing business in the logistics services sector; investment opportunities and industry prospects that bring growth and job creation in logistics services; investment in human capital in preparation for Logistics 4.0.

After the conference, a business matching activity will follow, with over 48 LSPs, offering freight transport, storage and warehousing, customs brokerage, and cargo handling services to participate in the Logistics Services Philippine Exhibition.  The business matching event aims to promote products and services of LSPs and link them with MSMEs and exporters who are looking for reliable and affordable logistics services for their business.

The two-day Logistics Services Philippines Conference and Exhibit is part of the National Export Week Celebration, to be held alongside with National Export Congress at the Philippine International Convention Center and organized by the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions.
