THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will conduct an entrepreneurship seminar and a business roundtable meeting on the sidelines of the first China International Import Expo (CIIE) happening in Shanghai from November 5 to 10 to help maximize the country’s presence and participation in the world’s largest trade expo.

As the lead agency of the Philippine delegation to the CIIE, the DTI, under Secretary Ramon M. Lopez, moves to improve the country’s trade position and business relationship with China.

To help ensure this, the department will hold the “Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan [TNK]” seminar on the first day of the CIIE. An initiative by Lopez, TNK aims to primarily encourage entrepreneurship among Shanghai-based Filipinos and provide overseas Filipino investors access to information, network of suppliers, and resources that will help them become successfulentrepreneurs.

There are more than 7,000 overseas Filipinos working in Shanghai and its neighboring provinces, the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) Shanghai said. With this, the DTI sees the TNK as a platform to help them better understand, assess and appreciate income opportunities through a series of lectures on entrepreneurship, financial literacy and labor productivity.

Meanwhile, through the Board of Investments, the DTI will lead a business roundtable meeting on November 6, where Lopez will present to Chinese executives the investment landscape of the Philippines and the advantages of doing business in the country.

The TNK, the business roundtable meeting, and the business matching between Philippine exporters and Chinese buyers which was organized by the PTICs in Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou, are just among the networking opportunities that will take place during the CIIE.
