DTI unveils Asean Business Program for 2017

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) as chairman of the Asean Economic Ministers (AEM) and as chairman for the Committee on Business and Investment Promotion (CBIP) unveiled the business programs for the year that will complement the Philippines’ priorities under the Asean Economic Community (AEC) Pillar.

The Asean MSMEs-Mentors Conference 2017 from April 12 to 25 will be a platform to bring together Asean mentors who can equip Asean local community enablers with the necessary information on access to capital; access to markets and Asean industries; and access to innovation.

The Asean Creative Cities Forum and Exhibit from April 15 to 23 will further promote the creative and innovative Asean. It will feature initiatives of 10 Asean countries in making culture and creativity a driving force for sustainable development and urban regeneration.

“Taste Asean” as the Philippines holds the International Food Exposition from May 19 to 21 will showcase the best food brands from Southeast Asia and its partner countries. As the Philippines aims to increase Asean SME participation in the global production and value chains, the 10 member countries comprising the Asean, as well as the Asean Dialogue Partners, will actively participate in the country’s biggest international trade exhibition on food and food-related products.

The Asean Women’s Business Conference from August 28 to September 1 will be a strategic dialogue between Asean, the private sector, and dialogue partners in addressing issues and concerns on women’s entrepreneurship. It will focus on market access and finance and the identification of innovative business models which support the Asean’s vision of a stronger, more inclusive, and integrated economic community.

The Inclusive Business Summit on September 7 will put emphasis on the role of the government in sharing best practices on implementing Inclusive Business Strategies and to recognize exemplary inclusive business models through the Asean Inclusive Business Awards.

It shall advocate the promotion of partnership among businesses – both small and big.

The second Asean Young Entrepreneurs Carnival on September 8 will strengthen the network among young entrepreneurs from Asean and other countries capturing the fast-paced developments on key sectors such as food, agriculture, Information Technology, Fin Tech, Logistics, business-processing outsourcing, start-ups, and Internet of Things. The commitment of our young entrepreneurs strengthened ties, cooperation and linkages will be reinforced through the formal launch of Asean Young Entrepreneurs Association Charter.

Slingshot on October 20 will help create a regional network of Asean ecosystem players including start-ups, angel investors, incubators, mentors, academe, coworking spaces and industry experts. It shall showcase investment-ready start-ups for potential local and international investors as well as facilitate easy access of information between governments running start-up development programs in the region.

The Asean MSME Summit on November 14 will feature inspiring MSMEs including those that have benefited from the mentoring program of the Philippines and other ASEAN-member states (AMS). The Summit will be an occasion to formally introduce the establishment of the Asean Mentors Network, an organization of mentors from 10 Asean Member States.
