The International Food Exhibition (IFEX) Philippines – the biggest international trade exhibition on the ethnic and specialty food of the Philippines and of Asia – will be partnering up with the European Union (EU) for its event which will be happening from May 19-21, 2017 at the World Trade Center in Manila.

This partnership, according to Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) Executive Director Rosvi C. Gaetos, will enable both the EU and the Philippines to further promote their products to each other’s market and trade buyers, essentially those which involved “temperate and tropical foods and processing equipment.”

According to a 2014 report by the European Commission, the EU ranked to be the Philippines’ fourth largest trading partner, while the Philippines “was EU’s sixth largest trading partner in the region.”

Some of the products that the EU exports to the country were food products, chemicals, and electronic components. The Philippines, on the other hand, would usually export office and telecommunication equipment, food products, and optical and photographic instruments to the said region.”

Since the EU is known to be one of the largest investor in the country, as the European Commission has stated, this exhibition is expected to further improve the economical relationship between the two countries. “Thus, IFEX Philippines 2017 is expected to strengthen trade between the two economies and make the percentage share of food items to the total volume rise to a significant level,” Gaetos stated.□
