Thirty (30) Philippine Halal-certified companies from the food and cosmetics sectors will be showcasing their products at the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS), the world’s largest event on Halal on 05-08 April 2017.
With the passage of Republic Act No. 10817 or the Philippine Halal Export Development and Promotion Act of 2016, the Philippine Halal Export Development and Promotion Board and the Department of Trade and Industry – Export Marketing Bureau (DTI-EMB) has been intensifying the development and promotion of Philippine Halal exports through various marketing initiatives such as organizing trade fair participation, conducting capacity building activities and strengthening market access of PH Halal certified products to various markets of Halal products and services.
Other participating agencies include the Department of Agriculture, Mindanao Development Authority, Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone Authority & Freeport and DTI Regions 5 and 9.
This year, the Philippines will be mounting a pavilion which will showcase thirty (30) companies from the food and cosmetics sectors, respectively. Participating companies include San Miguel Purefoods Company Inc., Mega Global, Century Pacific Food, Inc and Psalmstre, among others.
The country’s participation in MIHAS 2017 is viewed as the Philippines’ introduction to the global Halal industry as a producer of internationally competitive Halal products that will help generate investments related to Halal, and create jobs for Filipinos.
In an interview with Dir. Senen Perlada of DTI-EMB, the Philippine Halal Export Development and Promotion Board is united in its support to further develop Philippine Halal exports based on international Halal standards and become a major player in the USD 2.6 Trillion global Halal market.
Philippine Halal products to Malaysia is estimated to be around USD 86.7 Million in 2016, with a five year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 26.80%. •
