Hong Kong—The Department of Trade and Industry took the Philippines’ vibrant and diverse culinary offerings center stage at the HKTDC Food Expo Pro, held from 15-17 August 2024, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Organized by the Philippine Trade and Investment Center-Hong Kong (PTIC-HK) and the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), the country’s participation showcased the finest and most flavorful Philippine food products, generating an impressive USD 3.8 million in sales.
“PTIC-HK and CITEM are pleased to report that the unique flavors and quality of Philippine food and cuisine have been enthusiastically embraced by the Hong Kong market. This is evident from the strong leads and inquiries generated from overseas buyers, resulting in a total sales performance valued at USD 3,800,242.88,” said PTIC-HK Vice Consul Commercial and Commercial Attaché Atty. Roberto B. Mabalot, Jr.
“We are excited to apply the learnings from this successful Philippine participation in future food-related events,” Mabalot added.
The Philippine pavilion was a feast for the senses, featuring an array of fresh fruits including Durian, cavendish banana, and pineapple; as well as seafood products across all categories including mangrove crabs, fresh frozen cuttlefish, and dried seaweed, among others.
The Philippines was represented by seven food companies namely: Kang Kong King, Eng Seng Food Products, LA Carlota Food Enterprise, Siargao’s Bounty Seafoods Corp., Raspina Tropical Fruits Inc., Local Government of Buguey, and Hueza Bakery.
PTIC-HK arranged a comprehensive program to elevate the exhibitors’ experience and create valuable business opportunities. The agenda included B2B meetings that forged meaningful connections, an informative session with a Hong Kong-based e-commerce platform offering insights into the digital landscape, and a site visit to a local food technology company showcasing advanced technologies relevant to their industries.
Additionally, PTIC-HK, in partnership with HKDTC, hosted the “Sourcing Opportunities in the Philippines” seminar. The event explored trade relations between the Philippines and Hong Kong, and highlighted the latest trends in the food industry.
As the Philippines continues to captivate global palates with its rich culinary heritage, events like the HKTDC Food Expo Pro serve as a platform to showcase the country’s diverse and flavorful offerings, fostering international trade and strengthening economic ties.
