The Department of Trade and Industry-Philippine Accreditation Bureau (DTI-PAB) successfully conducted a series of webinars on August 13-15, 2024, aimed at enhancing the competence of construction material testing laboratories across the country. These webinars were part of DTI-PAB’s ongoing strategy to promote its accreditation services and encourage laboratories to pursue accreditation as credible evidence of their competence.

The first webinar, held on August 13, 2024, provided an in-depth orientation on the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025:2017, the international standard for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. This session was designed to ensure that participants fully understand the standard’s requirements, enabling them to align their practices with internationally recognized benchmarks.

Following this, the second webinar, conducted on August 14-15, 2024, delved into the specifics of internal auditing within the framework of ISO/IEC 17025:2017. This two-day session was aimed at equipping laboratories with the necessary skills to perform effective internal audits, which are critical in maintaining and improving their laboratory management systems.

Engr. Aldwin B. Tagapan, a highly respected freelance consultant on various management systems and one of DTI-PAB’s esteemed technical assessors, served as the resource speaker for the webinars. With his extensive experience and expertise, Engr. Tagapan provided valuable insights and practical guidance to the participants, further enhancing their understanding and application of the standards.

DTI-PAB’s commitment to promoting accreditation and raising the standards of testing laboratories is in line with the Department of Trade and Industry’s mission to ensure that Filipino consumers have access to quality and safe construction materials. By encouraging laboratories to seek accreditation, DTI-PAB not only helps improve the quality of testing services but also strengthens the country’s infrastructure development efforts.
