The Department of Trade and Industry’s Philippine Accreditation Bureau (DTI-PAB) continues its promotion of accreditation services for medical testing laboratories, focusing on the latest requirements of ISO 15189. In a two-day public training organized by Quality and Metrology Society Inc. (QualiMets) on October 18-19, 2024, held at Ace Hotel & Suites, Pasig, Metro Manila, PAB’s Supervising Trade-Industry Development Specialist from the Laboratory Accreditation Division, Marlon A. Macadamia, served as the resource speaker.
The training attracted active participation from laboratory personnel across various testing laboratories. Macadamia’s presentation covered the comprehensive requirements of the ISO 15189:2022 standard, which sets global benchmarks for medical laboratory quality and competence. Attendees were provided with a detailed explanation of the new provisions in the standard. PAB used the opportunity to introduce its accreditation services, highlighting the procedures, requirements, and numerous benefits of securing accreditation.
“Accreditation is not just about compliance, but it is also a commitment to excellence in healthcare service delivery,” said Macadamia during his presentation. The training emphasized how accreditation through PAB can significantly enhance the quality of healthcare services in the country by ensuring that medical testing laboratories meet the highest international standards.
PAB’s continued promotion of ISO 15189 accreditation underscores its mission to support the healthcare sector in delivering reliable and accurate medical testing services. PAB hopes that more medical testing laboratories will pursue accreditation, furthering their dedication to quality healthcare and contributing to public health safety.
PAB remains committed to fostering a culture of quality in the Philippines’ healthcare system through its accreditation services, which serve as a testament to the competence and reliability of accredited laboratories.
