In line with its commitment to uphold international standards in accreditation, the Department of Trade and Industry’s Philippine Accreditation Bureau (DTI-PAB) actively participates in Peer Evaluation activities through the provision of peer evaluators under the Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC) Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRAs). This involvement demonstrates the DTI-PAB’s dedication to ensuring the integrity and credibility of accreditation practices, both regionally and globally.

DTI-PAB has two APAC Lead Evaluators: Engr. Estrella R. Pilipiña. – Abejero, Chief of the Promotion and Documentation Division, and Engr.  Ma. Juanita P. Carpio, Chief of the Management System Accreditation Division. Additionally, Engr. Mary Joan D. De Pablo, Senior Trade-Industry Development Specialist of the Management System Accreditation Division, serves as an APAC peer evaluator, while Mr. Marlon M. Macadamia, Supervising Trade-Industry Development Specialist of the Laboratory Accreditation Division, is an APAC Provisional Evaluator. Engr. Abejero and Engr. Carpio have both served as Team Leaders or Deputy Team Leader in APAC peer-evaluations, further solidifying the bureau’s expertise in international accreditation practices.

This year, Engr. Abejero participated in two APAC Peer Evaluation undertakings conducted on-site. She headed the evaluation of the Korea Accreditation Board (KAB) from April 29 to May 3, 2024, working with a diverse team of evaluators from Sri Lanka, Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Turkiye, and the United States. Additionally, she served as one of the APAC peer evaluators for India’s National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB) from April 1 to 5, 2024. These peer evaluations are crucial for maintaining the competence and reliability of national accreditation bodies, ensuring that they meet international standards.

Meanwhile, Engr. Carpio participated as one of the APAC peer evaluators in the remote peer evaluation of the Vietnam’s Bureau of Accreditation (BoA) from May 20 to 24, 2024.

As signatories to the APAC MRAs, the DTI-PAB, through its peer evaluators, plays an essential role in maintaining the global trust in accredited certification, inspection, testing, and calibration services. This participation not only strengthens the bureau’s capabilities but also enhances the Philippines’ reputation in the international accreditation community.

Through these contributions, the DTI-PAB continues to align with the DTI’s overarching vision of promoting a business environment that fosters growth and consumer protection, as embodied in its tagline, Angat Negosyo, Asenso Trabaho, Alagang Konsyumer.
