The Food Safety & Hygiene Academy of the Philippines Inc. (FoodSHAP) joined the growing list of organizations that makes quality assurance a serious business. After hurdling the requirements of the PNS ISO/IEC 17020:2012 (Requirements for the operation of various types of bodies performing inspection). FoodSHAP got its certificate of accreditation from the Department of Trade and Industry – Philippine Accreditation Bureau (DTI-PAB) at the PAB office in Makati City on February 12, 2020. The certificate originally issued on January 21, 2020 is valid until January 20, 2025 as long as the newly accredited outfit meets the requirements of the standard and PAB conditions for inspection body accreditation.

FoodSHAP is the very first educational institution of Food Safety Qualification Program development for the food service and retail industry in the Philippines. Their scope of accreditation specifically covers inspection on catering and retail and food processing. They are proud partners of the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Health (DOH) in developing food safety education programs and campaigns in line with the Food Safety Act of 2013.

FoodSHAP located at Madrigal Business Park, Alabang, Muntinlupa City is also the first food safety certificate program developer in Asia to be accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) on the scope of FoodSHAP HACCP Principles & Practice, FoodSHAP Food Safety Compliance Officer (FSCO) and FoodSHAP Basic Food Safety (for Food Handlers).

Being accredited by two signatories to Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC-MRA) and International Accreditation Forum (IAF-MLA) makes FoodSHAP a formidable player in the food industry to help ensure safety in the food chain.

The Philippine Accreditation Bureau (PAB) earned its signatory status for Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC-MRA) for the scheme on ISO 22000 – Food Safety Management System on 21 February 2019. By virtue of Executive Order 802 PAB as the national accreditation body that accredits inspection bodies, certification bodies, testing and certification laboratories and other bodies offering conformity assessment services. As of December 2019, PAB has accredited a total of 248 conformity assessment bodies comprised of 170 testing laboratories, 46 calibration laboratories, 6 medical laboratories, 8 inspection bodies and 18 certification bodies.

ANSI, on the other hand, is signatory for International Accreditation Forum (IAF-MLA) Multilateral recognition arrangement (MLA) for level 5 sub-scopes of ISO 22000, ISO/IEC 27001, and ISO 13485.
