The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – MIMAROPA is searching for the Most Consumer-Friendly Market across the region to ensure that consumers’ rights and responsibilities are upheld.
Known as Pamilihang Bayan ng Bidang Mamimili (PBBM), DTI MIMAROPA recognizes local government units (LGUs) with public markets or palengke that adhere to industry standards in consumer protection and empowerment.
DTI’s provincial offices will use specific criteria to evaluate public markets’ compliance with consumer protection laws, fair-trade practices, consumer welfare, service relations, store management, facilities, and operations.
The search begins at the provincial level, where winners will advance to represent their provinces in the regional competition. The regional winner will receive a plaque of recognition and appropriate Shared Service Facilities project worth P1 million as the best PBBM in MIMAROPA.
LGUs are advised to prepare for the verification process based on the set criteria. DTI MIMAROPA’s PBBM committee will conduct initial checks of public markets until August 2024, followed by final verification and assessment of qualified LGUs.
Additionally, this initiative aims to establish an empowered Local Price Coordinating Council and Provincial Market Vendors Association in the region.
Interested LGUs may visit the nearest DTI office or Negosyo Center for more information. ♦
